If I am looking to move my children to Light of Christ Schools from the Public School System, and do not qualify for financial assistance (based upon the income qualification table) – is there any sort of a “transition program” which can help my family and I begin to build the full cost of tuition (which is new to us) into our budget over the next 1-2 years?
Yes, Light of Christ is open to helping you responsibly transition from having no tuition expense built into your current budget to affording the full cost oftuition in your monthly budget. The amount awarded under this “transition program” depends on the number of students transitioning and your family’s overall financial situation. Please call or email Dan Neff at the contact information listed below.
If I’m worried about being able to afford tuition/fees for the upcoming school year and have qualified for tuition assistance in the past, but no longer qualify (based upon the income qualification table), what are my options?
Please reference the "Further Explanation of Situation (possible exception)."
If you are still concerned – feel free to call Dan Neff. He will discuss the many flexible, creative payment options we have available through the FACTS Tuition Payment Plan.
Does Light of Christ offer any “full ride” tuition assistance opportunities?
No. Light of Christ believes very strongly that Catholic education requires a sacrifice on the part of every family regardless of their financial situation. Nonetheless, Light of Christ understands that we are a valuable partner with the parent(s) of each child whose joint goal it is to provide an excellent Catholic education. This partnership and joint goal means that Light of Christ will meet families in the middle, helping them (relative to their financial situation) afford the cost of tuition/fees.
If our family situation changes in the middle of the year, can our tuition assistance change as well?
Yes. Communication is key throughout the entire year. Please contact us to discuss any changes in your financial situation if you are concerned about your ability to continue affording your tuition payments.
What about tuition assistance if I am separated or divorced?
o Only the parent responsible for paying the child(ren)’s tuition/fees need apply for tuition assistance. Within the tuition assistance application form (and verified on your Tax Returns), you will list any child support, alimony, etc. that you receive from outside sources. Therefore these amounts will be considered in your overall application and factored into your ability to afford tuition/fees.
o No financial information will be viewable to another parent online, nor will the school share any financial information submitted by another parent. The school is not bound by any disclaimers of financial responsibility or legal arrangements that may bind either parent. Each case will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
o Please note that if you and your former spouse split tuition/fees payments, your tuition assistance award amount will be evaluated based upon the tuition/fees that are your responsibility. For example, if you are responsible for half of your child(ren)’s tuition/fees, then your tuition assistance need will be assessed based upon that portion, not your child(ren)’s total tuition/fees amount.
Is tuition assistance purely “need based”?
Yes. Tuition assistance is purely “need based;” Light of Christ does not offer academic, athletic, or fine arts scholarships. Instead, it focuses its fundraising efforts on enabling families and students of all socio-economic means, who desire a Catholic education and who our resources can serve, an opportunity to attend Light of Christ Schools.
If my spouse and I are choosing to help support our college age child, is that financial support taken into account when awarding our family tuition assistance for Light of Christ Tuition?
No. Your decision to support your college age child is not taken into account when Light of Christ evaluates your family’s overall financial need. Light of Christ is more than willing to help families afford OUR schools (since there are no other financing options available), however, it is not our responsibility to subsidize graduates’ education (especially since those institutions have a financial assistance process and financing options available for their own students).
